The Moon Rattles Like A Piece of Angry Candy
| Imagine my surprise as I was leafing through a
recent issue of "Alternative Press" and came across this little snippet
about the singer from one of my favorite bands "Soul Coughing". It turns out
that lead singer Doughty has been a Louise Brooks fan for years and even
has a tattoo of her on his arm. Says Doughty: "In junior high school,
when my peers were festooning their lockers with pictures of blondes in
Speedo one-pieces, my idea of rebellion was to put up photos of
black-haired, sullen-eyed film stars. I had no idea who any of them were,
but I became intranced with one of them: Louise
Brooks." Soul Coughing's latest album has a song entitled "St. Louise Is Listening". With obscure lyrical references to such things as Louise's Swedish boyfriend, "The Eskimo", it's safe to say Doughty know his Lulu history! |
